Gusstechnik GmbH developed a tooling concept that allows the small series
production of precision castings made of polymers or metals. This concept
is based on a moulding-box with a cavity shaped as a negative copy of the
casting. This concept requires a model, of which the copy can be made. For
commercial reasons a minimum lot-size of 10 castings is required in
order to justify the effort of tool-making. On the other hand the lifetime
of the tool is limited. The tools have to be renewed for production of high
volumes. Therefore this concept is useful for the production of 10 < N < 1000 castings.
It can be seen as a supplement process for customers with small series requirements,
i.e. prototyping suppliers, investment casters, etc.
